Busy Work
Being a college graduate, I naturally had countless assignments during my school years that were purely busy work. These are assignments that take minimal brain power but a lot of time, assignments that people procrastinate on just because the assignments are so boring. I do not understand the purpose of busy work. If a teacher or professor is going to give out homework, there should be a point to it. However unenjoyable any homework assignment might be, it should still make the student think or otherwise get more out of the class. Busy work is largely a waste of time because it is generally given out just so the students have something to hand in the next class. If there is nothing important for the students to work on for the next class, why hand out busy work? Teachers and professors should put enough time into creating an assignment that it actually gives students something productive to work on. There are plenty of educators who do put thought into assignments, but for those who think that any assignment is important just because it takes time to do, please re-think your process.
